Founded in 1877, Orange Park Fl, was originally developed by the Florida Winter Home and Improvement Company. The Town of Orange Park originally consisted of roughly 5,000 acres. It was subdivided into residential, commercial and small farm tracts of land. The Town's street system was based around Kingsley Avenue, River Road and Plainfield Avenue. One of the attractive features of Orange Park was that much of the land for sale had orange trees, which was considered a cash crop. Hence the name Orange Park. A hotel was constructed with a large pier that could accommodate steamboats that travelled along the St. Johns River.
Today, Orange Park is very attractive for residents. Many consider Orange Park, FL more affordable than living in many parts of Duvall County, which encompasses the city of Jacksonville, yet remaining a highly desirable area.
Orange Park, is in Clay County, which has a separate school system from Duvall County. As you travel across the Buckman bridge from Duvall To Clay, you will notice many homes along the St. Johns River that have popped up as the area has grown.
Orange Park is a flourishing area for commerce and business and has developed into the northeastern gateway to Clay County. The area boasts many high demand neighborhoods, affordable housing, condos and an expanding new home developments such as Oakleaf Plantation and Doctors Lake. It borders Green Cove Springs and Fleming Island.
